LOLUG jr. ’s goal is to enjoy and promote the LEGO® hobby for the teen fan. We seek to promote the hobby within the community through the organization of and participation in shows open to the public that display our creations in addition to meetings in the Lincoln/Omaha area.
About LOLUG jr:
LOLUG jr.’s goal as a group, is to enjoy and promote the LEGO® hobby for our local TFOLs (Teen Fans of LEGO®) ages 13-17. We accomplish this by organizing and attending club meetings, where members are encouraged to bring creations they have finished or are working on, and to share ideas about their projects past, present and future. In addition LOLUG jr. organizes activities for each meeting such as set drafts, build competitions and other LEGO® challenges. We welcome any teens with interest in every aspect of LEGO® building, and our current membership includes builders and collectors of nearly every theme. We seek to promote the hobby in the community through the organization of and participation in shows open to the public that display our creations in the Lincoln/Omaha area.
LOLUG jr. Meetings/Events:
LOLUG jr. will host 6 meetings a year alternating between the Lincoln and Omaha areas. These meetings will be led by actual LOLUG members. In addition to the 6 meetings, LOLUG jr. will also host its own event once a year. These events will allow any and all of its members the opportunity to display their MOCs (My Own Creation) for the general public to come and view. In order to become a member of LOLUG jr, you, or a parent, must join our Facebook page at LOLUG jr. All members that attend a meeting or event MUST be accompanied by a parents at all times. No member will be allowed to participate without a parent present.
LOLUG jr. Meeting Activites:
A LEGO® draft is an activity where multiple copies of a single set is divided between participants. Preparation includes dividing the sets into lots. This can be done in various ways, including by piece and color. Generally, each mini figure is assembled and is its own lot. Then each participant is randomly assigned a rank. Each person takes a turn and chooses a lot in rank order until all lots are taken.
Our Iron builder is a monthly competition to create a unique MOC (My Own Creation) in which a predetermined “seed” pieces is selected. The winner each month is granted the honor of choosing the next month’s seed piece. We find that this is a great way to help learn new building techniques and and gain ideas from other members. To see some of our past builds, check out our Flickr page.
Quit often, one or more of our members will put together a LEGO® related presentation to present to the group. These are given to help inform others of everything from new techniques and building styles to the best way to incorporate lights or decals into your builds.
